UIC College of Nursing Now Accepting Applications for Graduate Programs

Students and nurses applying for the Fall 2009 semester should be aware that the deadline is February 1, 2009.

“Whether you’re interested in a nursing career in public health, acute care, primary healthcare, management or teaching, our college of nursing offers an advanced nursing program to fit your career track,” Kathleen Baldwin, PhD, RN, Associate Professor (Public Health Nursing), said. “In addition, our program – now called the Central Illinois Regional Program for UIC – has also continued to set national standards by being one of the first colleges to offer the new Executive Leadership Doctorate of Nursing Practice.”

One of the First Online Executive Nursing Leadership DNP Programs in the Country
A top research facility (#3 in the nation), the UIC Central Illinois Regional Program (Peoria-Urbana) was also the very first college of nursing to offer a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program in downstate Illinois. The new executive leadership concentration is going one step beyond.

“The new executive leadership concentration supports the career track of nurse executives and those who want to rise to upper management positions,” Kathy Reno, Coordinator for the Executive Leadership DNP Program, said. “It’s a unique and different program designed to create top-notch administrators with more extensive financial and systems training, as well as more in-depth administrative skills.”

The goal of the Executive Leadership DNP Program is to prepare participants for top healthcare leadership roles in the area of their interest. Experience in some leadership roIe is strongly recommended prior to application to this concentration. Courses are constructed to buiId on previous knowledge of finance, change management, organizational theory and other management related knowledge in the participant’s current practice.

Other Advanced Practice Nursing Degrees
When it comes to graduate nursing programs, the UIC Central Illinois Regional Program (Peoria-Urbana) College of Nursing sets the pace for others in the nation. Not only the very first College of Nursing to offer a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) Program in Central Illinois, the UIC College of Nursing also offers the only joint degree in Master’s in Nursing and Master’s in Public Health in Illinois (MS-MPH).
