[ClickPress, Tue Mar 28 2006] The Pedestrian Shops, Boulder’s Comfortable Shoe retailer opened 36 years ago shortly after the original Earth Day in the spring of 1970. Pedestrian is celebrating its B’ earth day again this year with a shoe drive to benefit neighbors in need.
New and unloved or slightly used footwear is being collected at the Pedestrian Shops, 1425 Pearl on Boulder’s Downtown Mall and its location south of McGuckin Hardware in The Village Shopping Center, from Friday April 7th through Sunday April 30th. Customers who bring in a pair of shoes will receive a 10% discount on any purchase including footwear already sale priced. Richard Polk, the Pedestrian Shops owner, said “You don’t have to buy anything, we’re happy to get good used shoes from people who just want to help”.
The Pedestrian Shops will also be collecting shoes at the Center For Resource Conservation’s 4th Annual Earth Day 5k Run/Walk on Sunday April 23. CRC’s ED5K is known as a model low waste creating large event. The Pedestrian Shops participation will be part of a waste reduction element that provides an opportunity for injury sensitive serious runners to donate their near new running shoes for reuse, as well as, a convenient opportunity to donate their families extra everyday shoes. Race details can be found on the Center For Resource Conservation’s web site www.conservationcenter.org or phone 303-441-3278. Participants may register for the Earth Day 5k at www.active.com. Coupons for the 10% Pedestrian Shops discount will be given to people donating shoes at the race.
This is the Pedestrian Shops (www.comfortableshoes.com) 36th Shoe Drive. It has been conducting annual Thanksgiving and Earth Day shoe drives for 18 years. Over 20,000 pairs of re useable shoes have been collected by the Pedestrian Shops for distribution by the First Presbyterian Church’s Deacon’s Closet, and other community partners for reuse by people in need.
