The Movement of Independent Haitians for National Reconstruction (MIHRN) will hold its first symposium on Wednesday, April 27th 2005 from 6-8PM, at the Brooklyn Public Library Grand Army Plaza branch, located on Eastern Parkway and Flatbush Avenue in Brooklyn, New York.

The annual symposium seeks to promote dialogue crossing the boundaries of culture, generation, and interest groups. This year the symposium is entitled "Haiti: Empowerment, Liberty, Trust and Responsibility".

MIHRN, a not-for-profit organization, seeks to assess and evaluate the needs of all Haitians and to assist in all capacities. The symposium will include speakers from businesses, organizations, representatives of the Haitian Government as well as MIHRN members. The speakers will have the opportunity to engage in a constructive exchange of ideas on the challenges that Haiti and the Haitian diaspora face concerning empowerment, liberty, trust and responsibility.

The symposium is meant to empower as well as enlighten the attendees to the needs and conditions that Haiti and the Haitian diaspora are living under and the coping strategies that are being used by these individuals.

How can liberty and social justice be married so that Haiti can find a way out of this welfare state? How can the loss of confidence in the economy be overcome in the long term in order to protect and strengthen entrepreneurial freedom? How can our society grasp the opportunities of the unforeseeable, while heeding legitimate needs or protection and security? These and many other issues will be addressed.

We look forward to sharing an evening of empowerment, intellectual stimulation and ideas. Register online at http://www.socialzone.com/mihrn_symposium.shtml or call 718-638-3322.
