Domaine Le Pointu and Maison Alain Paret of France will display their Côtes du Rhône wines – including a Châteauneuf du Pape – at the VINEXPO trade fair, which will be held in Hong Kong from 23 to 25 May 2006. These two firms are seeking distributors/importers for these Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée vintages as well as for their vin de pays.
[ClickPress, Thu Apr 06 2006] Domaine Le Pointu is a family-run vineyard located near Châteauneuf du Pape in south-east France. It covers 25 hectares of vineyard, which are planted on clayey and clayey-sandy soils, some of which are covered with round stones, which amass the day's heat and pass it on to the vines during the night, improving the ripening of the grapes. The use of traditional methods that respect the environment, combined with a careful use of recent technology, enable the Le Pointu wines to express their terroir (i.e. the physical and environmental characteristics of the vineyard, especially the soil of the area concerned).
The red and white Châteauneuf du Pape wines and other Côtes du Rhône varieties make up the majority of the vineyard’s output, but Le Pointu also produces vin de pays (locally produced wines) – the red and rosé Pays d’Orange wines. All these vintages, the production of which reaches 1,300 hectolitres per year, have one thing in common – the richness and character that results from vines that are nearly 60 years old.
Alain Paret set up his 37-hectare domain in 1972 in the western Rhône Valley, 50km south of Lyons. The region's typical wines – St Joseph and Condrieu – are made from the Syrah and Viognier grape varieties and are planted on a schistose and granitic soil. The vines are planted on hillsides that are oriented south-to-south-east, producing wines bearing the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée label (AOC – certification that the product is made in a certain region and meets certain production criteria). The family-run vineyard (1,630 hectolitres per year) also produces vin de pays, grown with the same high level of quality. Alain Paret is also a consultant winemaker to cooperative societies in the Pays d’Oc (a reference to the historic French region of Occitania).
