REFOREST SALVADOR CONFERENCE TO HAVE FULL DAY LEUCAENA SYMPOSIUM
The REFOREST SALVADOR CONFERENCE will be held in Siguatepeque, Honduras in June 20, 21, 22 & 23, 2007 and is designed to facilitate the reforestation of El Salvador. El Salvador is facing environmental disaster due to deforestation. Each hurricane season the torrential rains fall on the deforested landscape where dead cows lie on roadsides that look more dessicated than the Sahel of Africa. This conference is designed to launch a massive reforestation program in El Salvador.
[ClickPress, Thu Apr 13 2006] Honduras is to be the launching pad for a Reforest Salvador conference with the date June 20, 21, 22 & 23, 2007 designed to facilitate the reforestation of El Salvador.

The conference which is cosponsored by the Leucaena Production Society (LPS), a division of ISAI, Inc a US corporation and the Asociación Intibucana de Comunicación, will be held in Siguatepeque Honduras at ESNACIFOR, the national forestry school of Honduras. It’s designed to bring together the people and resources needed for the reforestation of El Salvador. “The irony is that the original Leucaena tree that has served as the “mother Tree” for most of the Leucaena plantations in the world came from El Salvador. This germplasm was taken to Hawaii where it was selected for and developed into many varieities. New varieties continue to be developed from this original germplasm. However, when the scientists returned to El Salvador to collect more germplasm in the area, they found that the Mother tree had been cut down and used for firewood”
“It is possible that similar new Leucaena will be found in the frontier areas of Honduras near the Salvador border. It would be fitting to find similar germplasm to use in the reforestation of Salvador, “continued Dra. Carol Cross, initiator of the conference.
This conference is designed to offer profitable opportunities to small farmers, consultants, nursery suppliers, tree planters, community groups, equipment suppliers, machinery suppliers, tree planting suppliers, community developers, speakers, trainers, workshops developers, briquetting equipment, gasification equipment, biodiesel processing equipment, ethanol process plants, tree harvesting equipment, non profit organizations, churches, government agencies, universities, schools, cattle ranchers, international investors and other groups. Some groups and individuals will want to profit monetarily by gaining contracts, making business contacts, supplying equipment, machinery and or services. Other groups will see their profit in terms of human development such as empowering communities, assisting individuals and groups in development.
