Mériel Laboratories’ PROPHYL and ASEPTOL tackle bird flu

Mériel Laboratories, a subsidiary of INZO, the French specialist in animal healthcare, has produced a range of disinfectants that have proved to be effective in the fight against the avian influenza virus. The PROPHYL and ASEPTOL disinfectants have already been shown to combat poultry and swine disease and their efficaciousness in the fight against bird flu has just been confirmed by tests conducted in Taiwan by the Department of Veterinary Medicine of the National Chung Hsing University in Taichung.

[ClickPress, Thu Apr 13 2006] The tests, performed in December 2005 on hens’ eggs inoculated with the virus after the disinfectant had been diluted in hard water, and with the presence of 5% interfering matter, show that PROPHYL is effective at 0.4% (i.e. one litre of PROPHYL for 250 litres of water) and ASEPTOL at less than 0.4% (i.e. one litre of ASEPTOL for 250 litres of water). PROPHYL and ASEPTOL products are available in plastic jerrycans with 5-litre, 20-litre and 60-litre capacities.

With PROPHYL and ASEPTOL, poultry farmers have at their disposal a wide range of spray-type disinfectant solutions which are effective against all kinds of germs. These bacteria/virus/fungus-killing disinfectants are approved by the French National Veterinary Services Directorate as a means of fending off diseases recognised by law as being contagious and are also certified by the French Ministry of Agriculture.

PROPHYL 75 has a cresol and phenolic derivatives base. Just 0.5% is enough to kill off bacteria, and at 0.4% it is both a fungus and virus killer – including for avian flu. PROPHYL 75 is effective even when organic matter is present; it allows for good primary disinfection and can also be used when washing buildings for cleaning, disinfecting and deodorising. It is especially recommended for foot dips as well as for the areas surrounding buildings. The recommended dose for poultry is one litre for 200 litres of water.

PROPHYL 2000 has a quaternary ammonium compound, glutaraldehyde and phenolic derivatives base. Just 0.4% is enough to kill off bacteria and it is a fungus killer at 0.8% and a virus killer at 0.75% – including in the case of avian flu. PROPHYL 2000 is a concentrated disinfectant which is used as a spray or in thermonebulisation. Its unique composition, combining three complementary active principles, enables it to prevent the appearance of resistances. It shows a high degree of activity even in the presence of organic matter. Its versatility and its concentration make it the most reliable disinfectant when it comes to poultry breeding. The recommended dose for poultry is one litre for 125 litres of water.

ASEPTOL PRO has a quaternary ammonium compound and glutaraldehyde base. It takes just 0.5% to kill off bacteria and it is a fungus killer at 2.0% and a virus killer at 1.0% – including in the case of avian flu. ASEPTOL PRO is a wide-action-radius disinfectant which can be used as a spray or in thermonebulisation. It is suited to disinfection in a breeding environment or in the agri-foodstuffs industry. The recommended dose for poultry is one litre for 50 litres of water.

ASEPTOL DDA is a bacteria-killing degreasing detergent at 1% with a quaternary ammonium compound base, ideal for cleaning breeding farm buildings and equipment. It is also used for cleaning and disinfecting in agri-foodstuffs processing plants. The recommended dose for poultry is one litre for 100 litres of water.
