City to edge out Danish champions

[ClickPress, Tue Mar 10 2009] After disappointing early exits in the Carling Cup and FA Cup Manchester City continue in the knock-out stages of the UEFA Cup hungry for success.

City have been 'hit and miss' this season, but Mark Hughes' men have found some consistency at Eastlands and a tie against Danish opponents Aalborg should give them a real chance of making the quarter-finals.

The home side are favourites to progress, but football odds of 1.61 about a home win look skinny, especially when you consider the results the Danish champions have picked up on the road.

AaB qualified for the Champions League but despite a creditable goalless draw away at Celtic and a 2-2 draw at Manchester United, the Danes could only finish third in their group, which sent them into the UEFA Cup.

Coach Magnus Pehrsson guided his men past Deportivo in the previous round, including a 3-1 away-day triumph, but they have never won against an English side.

City meanwhile have at times been scintillating at home and have won nine and lost five of their 14 home games in the Premier League and although they are expected to take a lead to Denmark for the second leg, a comfortable victory looks unlikely.

The visitors have lost only once in their last seven European away games, going down 6-3 at Villarreal in the Champions League group stage, and City will have to be on top of their game to put Pehrsson's men to the sword.

The double result could be the way to go with three of City's nine wins at home being all square at half-time before City have gone on to take the plaudits.

The football odds of 4.7 look more tempting when you consider three of City's four home dates in the UEFA Cup have been level before Hughes' men have run out winners in the second half.
