The John Taylor Hospice in Birmingham is looking for your ‘bling’!

The League of Friends of the Hospice is launching an unusual recycling scheme.

Ray Woods, Marketing and Fundraising Officer for the League of Friends explained,
‘We have been approached by an organisation that is prepared to sift through unwanted jewellery. We thought that it was different, but worth a try.

There are no real restrictions on what can be donated. Even damaged, broken or incomplete items will be accepted – so all the odd earrings and broken chains are a great start. They don’t have to be gold or silver - and working watches are also acceptable.

We are always looking for new ways to generate additional income to help patients and provide improved support for them.

All of the donated items will be checked by an expert and valued before they are sold. This is to avoid a situation in which someone accidentally gives away something of high value.’

At the launch the scheme, Sue Benzie the sister in charge of the John Taylor Day Hospice couldn’t resist dressing up for the occasion using some of the items already donated. She said,
"The Day Hospice treats over 2,500 patients per year. We get a lot of support from the public and our volunteer helpers. Any additional sources of income are always very welcome however."

Suitable freepost envelopes are available from the League of Friends.
