Walk the Walk presents the 6th annual Art Around Adams Music and Arts Festival, Saturday, June 6, in Normal Heights. Festivities include live theater, comedy, film, bands and an art walk dedicated to saving city-funded youth and community programs.
[ClickPress, Fri May 29 2009] Walk the Walk is proud to present the 6th annual Art Around Adams Music and Arts Festival, Saturday, June 6, from noon to 10pm, in Normal Heights. This year's festivities include the addition of a music and film festival dedicated to raising support to save city-funded youth and community programs scheduled for termination this summer. Slated the largest art and music festival in San Diego, Art Around Adams will host an array of creative arts showcases, including live theater, comedy, film, 40 live bands and a 1.5 mile art walk.
The AAA Festival consists of a two-part creative arts celebration. Come join artists and art lovers for a free art walk merging local artists with over 65 galleries, boutiques, and other establishments on Adams Avenue. The trolley is made available for free transportation to escort guests along the route. The second part is the addition of a Coachella-style festival, taking place at the Adams Recreation Center, at 3491 Adams Avenue, spotlighting the best in San Diego performing arts, as well as a tapestry of San Diego musical talent, with 40 performances across four stages. There will be a screening and filmmaker Q&A with 2009 Sundance Best Short Film winner “Short Term 12”, stand-up comedians and improv troupes, dance performances, a runway fashion show from Shane Baker, an H.P. Lovecraft blacklight horror theatre production, and much more. Other activities include a video game tent, interactive sports from GoVavi, and an alcohol garden for 21 & up guests. Tickets for the music and film festival are $10 in advance and $15 at the door. For tickets or more information go to www.artaroundadams.org.
The addition of the Art Around Adams Festival is a benefit to support the after-school programs at the Adams Recreation Center. Founded in 1987, the Adams Recreation Center has been an extremely vital part of the Normal Heights community and host to a large number of city-funded programs, creating an after-school wonderland for kids to develop themselves outside of the classroom. Due to proposed budget cuts, however, all of these programs may well be terminated over the 2009 summer. The Art Around Adams Music & Arts Festival will provide a galvanizing declaration not only of the Rec Center's importance to Normal Heights, but of the importance of park and recreation programs throughout San Diego.
Art Around Adams began with Normal Heights' artists and business owners getting together at a local coffee house to create an event that would focus on the exhibition of local art in business storefronts. In 2004, with a limited budget from businesses and artists, Art Around Adams was launched. In 2008, Walk the Walk came on as the event organizers.
Walk the Walk is an event production company founded in March 2008 by lifelong friends Jon Block and Adam Rosen. While their events provide an exhilarating getaway from conventional socializing, Walk the Walk's real aim is to bridge the gap between artists and the public, shifting energies towards supporting local talent, and honoring those who stay the creative course no matter the obstacles.
