Saro begins to shine in AFL2

The Bristol Aztecs alltime leading rusher Kenny Saro's 'American Adventure' continues. He is currently the only ex British American Football League player, competing professionally in the USA.

[ClickPress, Wed Jun 14 2006] The Bristol Aztecs alltime leading rusher Kenny Saro's 'American Adventure' continues. He is currently the only ex British American Football League player, competing professionally in the USA.

Nigerian born, Kehinde Abdul Ganui Saro first entered the Bristol American Football scene in 1998 when he joined the University of the West of England's Bristol Bullets. For six years, Kenny became the backbone of both the Bullets and Bristol Aztecs dominating ground attack.

After three years of being shunned by the NFL Europe National Player Programme, Kenny set off to Oklahoma ,after being offered a contract by the Arena Football League's OKC Yard Dawgz, as part of the AFL2 International Player Programme.

Kenny spent a season in Oklahoma at the Yard Dawgz before securing a contract at the Florida Firecats for 2006. Saro commented: "The Firecats are a much better fit for me, they like to run the ball, which is rare in Arena Football".
Despite Kenny's natural ability at runningback, he has reverted full circle to his original playing roots, as a linebacker for the Firecats. In Kenny's first season of American Football, at the Bristol Bullets, he broke the single season tackle record and led the team in scoring from the linebacker position.

After sitting out six games due to a high ankle sprain, Kenny burst back onto the AFL2 scene on June 3rd in the Firecats game against the Tennessee Valley Vipers. 5,000 fans saw Kenny make six tackles in the Firecats 74-33 demolition of the Vipers.

At the midpoint of the season, the Firecats sit in second place in their division at 7-2, with things looking good for playoff football.

The Aztecs wish Kenny and the Firecats the good luck for the rest of their season, and look forward to seeing him back on British shores in August.
