Killeen Raises Issue Of Odour Nuisances In Quin

Minister Killeen said he was contacted by numerous residents of Quin village who had detected odours on a number of occasions in recent months.

According to the Clare Deputy: "Clare County Council has informed me that it is examining the operation of the existing plant, and possible upgrading of the facility. Consultants are currently reviewing the plant’s operation and capacity."

In a written response to Minister Killeen’s representation, the Water Services section of Clare County Council stated: "Later this month we will be installing, for a one-month trial period, an item of equipment which will increase the treatment capacity. When the results of this trial are analysed, they will yield information to contribute to a decision on the need for upgrading the plant, and on the methods to be used to achieve such an upgrade."

"In the meantime the Council will continue to operate the plant in accordance with best practice, and to monitor the occurrence of odours arising from it", concluded the Council.
