ExaProtect and Qualys Integrate Their Security Solutions for Better Prioritisation of Security Event

Integrating vulnerability data with core security event management engine creates security alerts according to their relevance and business criticality

[ClickPress, Tue Jul 18 2006] ExaProtect, the market leader in core security event management (CSEM), has announced that QualysGuard On-demand Vulnerability Management solution from Qualys has been certified for integration with ExaProtect’s CSEM (Core Security Event Management Solutions).

The certification of QualysGuard enables easy integration of automated vulnerability assessments into ExaProtect’s core security correlation engine. This will provide IT teams with a more effective way to remediate security holes by correlating and prioritising alerts according to the target system’s actual vulnerability, security status and importance to the business.

For example, if a mission-critical Oracle server is targeted by an attack to which it is vulnerable, the integrated ExaProtect and Qualys solution can immediately notify the IT team with a high-level alert. However, if the server is already patched against the attack, ExaProtect’s solution will inform the IT team with a low-level alert, as the actual risk to the business is minimal.

Jean-François Déchant, CEO of ExaProtect said: “Integrating Qualys technology with ExaProtect solutions means that IT teams can benefit from advanced vulnerability alerting supported by ExaProtect’s in-depth incident analysis and handling capabilities. As both Qualys’ and ExaProtect’s solutions can be delivered as a service, it also creates a real opportunity for managed security service providers to deliver new services to customers.”

“Securing networks and applications is an on-going challenge for organizations large and small. Correlating up-to-date vulnerability data with business intelligence data effectively prioritises security resources and streamlines the patch management process. We were eager to partner with ExaProtect to provide customers such a seamless integration,” said Philippe Courtot, CEO of Qualys.

ExaProtect’s CSEM solutions monitor critical business systems, network sessions and behaviour in real-time according to business rules and security policies. They alert IT staff when any network or system activity deviates from corporate policy, and help prioritise responses to those alerts, ensuring security risks are minimised.
