SDGA-Carolinas Golf School Director Nominated for Horton Smith Award

Eric Wilson, Director of TGAC, has been nominated for the prestigious Horton Smith Award in 2006.

[ClickPress, Wed Aug 02 2006] Eric Wilson, Director of SDGA golf school The Golf Academy of the Carolinas, has been nominated for the 2006 Horton Smith Award. Presented annually by the Professional Golfers' Association (PGA), the Horton Smith Award recognizes those who excel in improving educational opportunities for the PGA Golf Professional.

“It is an incredible honor to just be nominated for this award, and I feel very fortunate and thankful,” Wilson says.

A professional golfer with a distinguished track record, Wilson started his career with San Diego Golf Academy in 1996 at The Golf Academy of Arizona. After serving as the director of first SDGA-Arizona and then SDGA-San Diego, Wilson opened the Carolina golf school of SDGA in 1998, where he has remained as director ever since.

Wilson believes in keeping his instruction to students simple. With the motto, “Golf is a game. Play it and have fun,” Wilson teaches his students to not only play golf, but also to understand the physics of the game. Wilson is also the director of South Carolina Special Olympics Golf, and has been involved in some fashion - whether planning, organizing, conducting, or judging - many Special Olympics golf events.

As the director of a San Diego Golf Academy golf school, Wilson is part of more than a 30-year tradition in golf education. With golf schools in San Diego, Arizona, Myrtle Beach, Orlando, and Hawaii, SDGA has given more than 5,000 students the education they need to get the golf job of their dreams.
