British businessman Mark Shaw and his team have completed the world's most exclusive road rally, the Gumball 3000 alongside a host of A-list celebrities including Quentin Tarantino, Daryl Hannah, 50 Cent and Jay Kay, with assistance from Karputer’s ICEPAC Windows in-car computer. Shaw was in the top 40 finishers.

The ICEPAC gave Mark and his team Internet and email access, satellite navigation and DVD / TV capability during the six-day endurance drive, which finished in Monaco last weekend after 3000 gruelling miles through Europe. Shaw’s 400+ horsepower ‘Strange Rover’ competed alongside a range of exotic cars including Porsches, Ferraris, Lamborghinis and many other one-off specials.

Shaw competed in last year’s Gumball rally, finishing well inside the top 40 from the 188 starters. His car has already been featured on BBC2’s Top Gear programme, impressing host Jeremy Clarkson with its performance.

The team used the ICEPAC PC to update their website event diary and to keep in touch with supporters by email, using its mobile Internet access functions. The GPS system built into the ICEPAC also relayed the vehicle’s position, enabling people to track its progress on the Internet.

ICEPAC is Europe’s first full function Windows in-car computer, and gives users full GPS satellite navigation, WiFi Internet access, DVD and TV multimedia playback and computing functions in a compact unit that fits into any car. It is controlled from the supplied colour LCD touchscreen mounted on the car dashboard, and is also supplied with a compact, wireless keyboard and mouse for more conventional use.

Mark Shaw said: "The rally was huge fun but make no mistake, it was a tough event. The ICEPAC unit gave our team both practical help and entertainment en route, thanks to its satellite navigation, Web access and multimedia capabilities. It’s a very special part of our very special car."
