1964…THE TRIBUTE TO REPLICATE BEATLES PERFORMANCE ON 40th ANNIVERSARY OF SHEA STADIUM CONCERT
As any good Beatles fan would know, August 23 marks the anniversary of the “fab four” performing at New York’s Shea Stadium, when they made history while appearing for their last NYC concert. Usually reserved for baseball games, the ballpark hosted a phenomenon that night…the “mop tops from Liverpool” caused mass hysteria when tens of thousands of screaming devotees turned out to see their heroes in concert.
[ClickPress, Tue Aug 15 2006] Now it’s 2006 and The Beatles are no more. John and George have gone on to join that supergroup in the sky. But 1964…THE TRIBUTE – dubbed “the #1 Beatles tribute band in the world” by Rolling Stone Magazine – have been given the honor of commemorating this momentous event by performing live at Shea Stadium on the exact same date. Once again, history will be made.
On Wednesday, August 23,1964…THE TRIBUTE will whip the crowd into a frenzy when they hit the stage as the ballpark hosts The Battle Of Division Leaders (the New York Mets against The St. Louis Cardinals). Not only will 1964…THE TRIBUTE perform prior to the start of the game, they will also entertain between innings. The members of 1964…THE TRIBUTE are all exceptionally talented musicians who take on the additional mantle of actors, stepping into the characters of The Beatles to recreate an actual Beatles concert with the sounds, sights and atmosphere as it might have been in the early to mid 1960s.
1964…THE TRIBUTE have been bringing their homage to The Beatles in sound and sight to adoring fans around the world, including six previous shows at famed Carnegie Hall. “This is definitely another highlight of our career,” said founding member Gary Grimes, who portrays Paul McCartney in the band. “First we played at Carnegie on the exact 40th anniversary of The Beatles’ show there, and now we’re doing it again at Shea!” Adds Mark Benson, who portrays John Lennon, “This is another dream come true for us as performers and Beatles fans. I’m sure the combination of being at Shea and playing for 55,000 people will make this one of the best concerts we’ve ever done.” This show also marks the New York return of two former members of 1964…THE TRIBUTE: Tom Work as George Harrison, and Terry Mandfredi as Ringo Starr.
The concert begins at 6:30PM pre game, and will be carried live on the stadium’s PA system and giant video screen. 1964…THE TRIBUTE plan to perform 10 to 18 songs, including “Twist & Shout” at the 7th Inning Stretch, replacing the traditional “Take Me Out To The Ball Game.”
It has just been announced that 1964…THE TRIBUTE will return to New York on January 27, 2007 for a record breaking seventh appearance at Carnegie Hall. Tickets for this event go on sale Thursday morning, August 24 (at the Carnegie Hall box office, by calling 212-247-7800, or online www.carnegiehall.org)
