Citizens Group Launches Probe into Jack Johnson Administration Abuses Against Prince George’s County

Citizens for Honesty and Integrity in Prince George's County (CHIPGC) has announced an investigation into the abuse and mistreatment of county employees during the administration of County Executive Jack Johnson.

[ClickPress, Sun Sep 10 2006] “We have collected significant information about serious personnel abuses against county employees during Jack Johnson’s administration,” explained a spokesperson for Citizens for Honesty and Integrity in Prince George’s County (CHIPGC).

The group said the alleged abuses include physical assault, unwarranted dismissals and transfers, and the hiring and protection of unqualified personnel.

“The system has failed county employees because County Executive Johnson protects his appointees no matter how they abuse county workers,” charged a CHIPGC spokesman. So when an honest employee musters the courage to file a formal complaint, he is the one that gets punished.”

According to CHIPGC, this has had a chilling effect on the willingness of county public servants to speak out against abuses and personnel irregularities.

The group said that they intend to break that chill, publicly expose the abuses, and turn evidence over to the appropriate state and federal authorities.

Jackson has come under frequent criticism for awarding lucrative contracts and positions to unqualified personnel. An August 6th Washington Post article exposed that the Prince George’s County Executive had handed out $3.3 million in “personal service” contracts to unqualified friends and supporters.
