Barco brings the collaborative visualization room of the future to the Oil & Gas industry at SEG

Barco, a leading global provider of visual display solutions for virtual and augmented reality, unveils the future of the collaborative visualization room to oil & gas professionals at the SEG 2006 exposition (October 1 - 4).

[ClickPress, Sat Sep 23 2006] “More than ever, oil & gas companies are working with large streams of data from multiple sources,” says Ken Hunter, director of marketing, virtual & augmented reality for Barco’s simulation division. “As a result, businesses need better tools to exploit the quantity and quality of data, comprehensively visualize information, and facilitate team-based collaboration. Barco’s scalable desktop technology, such as the VR workroom, is the perfect tool.”

Barco’s VR workroom is the visualization industry’s most advanced and most unique virtual collaboration work environment. This system enables oil & gas visualization centers to quickly retrieve information via a company’s network or via computer/video sources and easily display it in multiple, high-resolution mono and 3D stereo windows on a large 16:9 screen. Users can freely position windows, and frequently used content can be saved on the projector’s hard disk and retrieved on demand. Optical tracking and mouse emulation technology facilitate the direct, wireless interaction with the data. VR workrooms can be networked and managed from a central IT/AV location.

Barco representatives will also be available to talk about the new external desktop system, the XDS-1000. This revolutionary modular, scalable desktop solution takes high-resolution, multi-windowing to the next level. The XDS-1000 is designed to receive a broad range of inputs (external sources such as data, video, and network) and display this multi-source content in individual windows on a large canvas using a variety of Barco projection systems. By easily adding and configuring modules, Barco’s XDS-1000 can turn any oil & gas visualization room into a highly efficient tool to increase productivity and enhance knowledge sharing in applications such as oil & gas exploration, Real Time Operation Centers, production, and corporate/technical boardrooms.

On Monday, October 2 @ 4:00 pm at the Visualization Theater, Yoav Nir, V&AR market director for Barco, will be giving a presentation on “The Scalable Desktop”. Mr. Nir will describe how this innovative visualization technology can be used in oil & gas applications to help companies increase productivity, minimize training requirements, and reduce visualization room support.

All of the presentations at the Visualization Theater will be projected by Barco’s high-definition iQ Pro and iCon H600 scalable desktop solutions.
