An Ayrshire Cancer charity gained an extra boost this week - a special cheque from Clydesdale Bank.

The Ayrshire Cancer Support, based at Kilmarnock, received an £850 cheque from Clydesdale Bank’s Ayrshire Financial Solutions Centre (FSC), Ayr.

The £850 cheque was presented to the charity on Tuesday 20 January 2010 by Clydesdale Bank Ayrshire FSC managing partner Willie Mackie, after Ayrshire Cancer Support was selected from a draw of charities nominated by staff.

The money for the donation came from two Clydesdale Bank charity auctions of 300 historic and collectable bank notes in Glasgow and London last September which raised £180,000. From this £3,850 is being made available to three charities in Ayrshire. The other two charities to benefit are Alzheimer’s Scotland, Ayr Division and East Ayrshire Carers.

Ayrshire Cancer Support has provided help to cancer patients throughout the region since 1982. With cancer support centres in both Ayr and Kilmarnock it provide a drop in facility for cancer patients, their families and the bereaved and a range of services including counselling, support groups and complementary therapies.

Ayrshire Cancer Support chief executive James Beck said: "We are extremely grateful to everyone at the Clydesdale Bank’s Financial Solutions Centre in Ayr for this very generous donation. Our charity, like many others, is experiencing difficulties in these challenging financial times and this donation will help us to continue providing our services to cancer patients and their families throughout Ayrshire."

Clydesdale Bank Ayrshire FSC managing partner Willie Mackie said: "We are thrilled that some of the funds raised by Clydesdale Bank’s charity auctions have come to Ayrshire, and that our decision to support the three charities will hopefully make a significant difference to the lives of people across Ayrshire."
