Premier Sharjah Ramadan Soccer Championship Underway

Under the auspices of Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Thani, the Department of Civil Aviation & Sharjah Airport Authority started the first Sharjah Ramadan Soccer Championship

[ClickPress, Sun Oct 01 2006] Having started on Thursday the 28th of September, the Sharjah Ramadan championship continues with daily matches till the 7th of October at the Sharjah National Park. Participating are eight different teams, which represent the different government departments at the Sharjah International Airport. Prizes have been allocated for the first three winning positions.

Mr. Osama, Public Relations Manager of the Department of Civil Aviation Sharjah, and the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the championship said, " At the outset we would like accord His Highness Sheikh sultan Bin Mohammed Sultan Al Qassimi, Crown Prince of Sharjah and Deputy Governor of the nicest compliments and congratulations on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan. Our heartfelt thanks go to Sheikh Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Thani, President of the Department Of Civil Aviation in Sharjah for the sponsorship and support in establishing the first Ramadan soccer championship and doing everything possible to ensure its success."

He added, " Organizing the first soccer championship in Ramadan by Department of Civil Aviation and Sharjah Airport Authority was done within the framework of the airport to encourage closer cooperation and harmony amongst the different government staff at the airport. Additionally the tournaments add to the recreation activities in the evenings during the Holy month of Ramadan."
The eight-team championships are from departments such as Engineering Department, Freight and Immigration Department, as well as Airport customs and three teams from the Airport Police. Speaking on behalf of the Organizing Committee, Osama said, " The first of the series of matches started on Thursday, the 28th of September at 10 pm. Playing the first match was the airport customs team versus the freight team. At 11 pm the match was held between two police teams, A and B."

Osama pointed out that the final game would be held on the 7th of October, where the teams will be given the first three valuable prizes. The first team winner would receive the championship trophy along with gold medals for the team. The second winning team would receive silver medals for its participants and the third ranking team would receive bronze medals for its members. Awards would also be given for appreciation of the idea of the championship, best goalkeeper position, best goal scorer. Furthermore opportunities will be available to the public to win prizes, gifts and other miscellaneous items for their encouragement during the matches.

The Airport Authority would like to show their gratitude all their sponsors for the first Sharjah Ramadan Soccer Championship.
