The Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) recently celebrated 21 Years of Service to the small business community with a Business Networking Membership Reception at Brooklyn Borough Hall, Brooklyn, NY.
[ClickPress, Sun Oct 08 2006] The Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CACCI) recently celebrated 21 Years of Service to the small business community with a Business Networking Membership Reception at Brooklyn Borough Hall, Brooklyn, NY.
Over 300 business and community leaders, members and elected officials joined CACCI’s board of directors and president and CEO to witness the historic unveiling of the first ever Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce and Industry Trade Center/Business incubator to be located in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn, NY.
Commissioner Guillermo Linares of the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs brought greetings on behalf of Mayor Michael Bloomberg and CACCI’s architect, Horace Harris, president and CEO of Horace Harris and Associates unveiled several renderings of the proposed Caribbean Trade Center/Business Incubator which showed existing conditions of the building and the proposed plans for the future.
The Caribbean Trade Center will house commercial anchor tenants, offer an array of domestic and international business services, and create jobs. CACCI President and CEO, Dr. Roy A. Hastick, Sr. thanked Hon. Michael Bloomberg, Mayor of the City of New York who made a historic announcement at CACCI’s 2005 Annual Entrepreneur of the Year Awards Dinner of his support and commitment to see the Caribbean Trade Center come to fruition.
The mayor pledged his support to help ensure that the acquisition process will remain on track. Hastick also thanked New York State Governor George E. Pataki, former New York City Council Speaker Gifford Miller and current Speaker Christine C. Quinn, Brooklyn delegation of the New York City Council spearheaded by Council members Dr. Kendall Stewart and Yvette Clarke, Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, New York State Comptroller Alan Hevesi, New York City Comptroller William Thompson, Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Dr. Edwin Carrington who pledged support on behalf of the Caribbean Heads of Government, and Dr. Harold Robinson, Consul General of Trinidad and Tobago also Chairman of the Association of Caribbean Consular Corps in New York City on behalf of the Association.
Hastick expressed his gratitude to CACCI’s board of directors, members, business and community leaders and the Caribbean leadership for their support which has helped to elevate the Caribbean Trade Center to this level. “Without their support, the Caribbean Trade Center would not have advanced this far. We have made considerable progress because we have forged a powerful, evolving local, national and international network comprising of small businesses, corporate, public and private partnerships. Over the past 21 years, we have proven that networking really works,” Hastick said.
Most recent CACCI domestic and international business initiatives include: Meeting with the NYC Council Speaker Christine C. Quinn; Monthly Membership Breakfast meetings with special guest speakers Joe Ithier, executive director of the Empire State Development Corporation Network Offices and representatives from financial institutions including: JP Morgan Chase, Citi Bank, health insurance companies and SCORE.
CACCI President hosted International meetings with Hon. Lowell Lewis, MD, Chief Minister of Montserrat and his delegation on their visit to New York; Maureen Pollard, Barbados 2007 World Cup, several delegations from the Caribbean Conference of Churches, representatives from the University of the West Indies and from St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles. Hastick also participated in recent meetings with the newly elected Prime Minister of Jamaica, Hon. Portia Simpson-Miller and Grenada’s Governor General Sir Danny Williams on their visits to New York and paid overseas an visit to the Caribbean where he met with Hon. W.
