TIE ME KANGAROO DOWN, SPORT – ITS AUSTRALIA NIGHT AT THE FUNNY SIDE
On Friday the 27th October you can pretend that you are back in Australia as its 'Aussie Night' at The Funny Side…of Covent Garden.
[ClickPress, Tue Oct 10 2006] The weather is getting colder but its hotting up down under. Isn’t it just the time of year you wish you lived in Australia? Well on Friday the 27th October you can pretend that you do – its Aussie Night at The Funny Side…of Covent Garden.
There’ll be three top Australian comedians on the bill and the whole evening will have an Aussie theme, including a soundtrack that’s 100% Oz.
There’s a great food menu with its fair share of barbecue tucker and of course a fine selection of cold beers behind the bar.
So come along and join in the fun, in a comedy club that’s as cosy as a kangaroo’s pouch.
Appearing will be:
Mickey D
2001 – OSU CAMPUS COMEDY WINNER - COLUMBUS OHIO, USA
2000 – PICK OF THE FRINGE – ADELAIDE FRINGE FESTIVAL
2000 – NESCAFE BIG BREAK AWARD - $2000 WINNER
1998 – TRIPLE J RAW COMEDY – WINNER, SOUTH AUSTRALIA & RUNNER-UP, NATIONAL FINAL
At only 26, hyperactive Aussie comic Mickey D has performed in festivals and tours throughout the world and has appeared regularly on TV and radio in Australia. Since storming the Adelaide Fringe & Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2000, Mickey has performed across the UK, throughout Europe, LA, New York, Denver and Chicago. The kind of character it's impossible not to warm to, Mickey's is a truly feel-good act - his boundless energy and infectious smile is always guaranteed to rub off on any audience. Don't miss this opportunity to see him while he's in London.
Aaron Counter
2005 – FINALIST BBC NEW COMEDY AWARDS
This young Australian has been impressing audiences with his measured, self-assured stage presence and flat out funny material. Engaging and quick-witted, Aaron's intelligent humour is delivered with an acid tongue but tempered with a playful child-like manner. His relaxed and inviting delivery balances nicely against a sometimes acerbic take on modern life. Aaron has established himself as a regular act at comedy venues throughout the UK. He has performed at the Edinburgh Festival every year since 2003. In 2004 Aaron spent the later part of the year touring in Australia playing Sydney and Melbourne as well as his hometown of Perth. In 2005 he has continued his momentum reaching the Final of the BBC New Comedy Awards and performing throughout the UK and Australia.
Charlie Pickering
2006 BARRY AWARD NOMINEE - MELBOURNE COMEDY FESTIVAL
2005 PERRIER AWARD NOMINEE – EDINBURGH FESTIVAL
2005 WINNER BEST INTERNATIONAL ACT – NEW ZEALAND COMEDY GUILD AWARDS
Edgy, polished and inventive, Charlie Pickering is possibly the most exciting new name in Australian comedy. Charlie began to perform solo stand up in the pubs and clubs of Melbourne in 2000. He started the cult comedy room Stagetime with fellow comic Michael Chamberlin, each taking turns as host. Stagetime made a storming return to the Melbourne comedy landscape at Bar Open in August 2004. Charlie also spent two years co-hosting Triple J's Drive Show and was a regular on ABC-TV's stand-up comedy show Stand Up! You may also have spotted him in 2004 most Friday morning's with Michael Chamberlin dissecting the news of the week on Nine's Today program and most recently performing stand up on Rove [Live] or hosting shows for the Comedy Channel.
