ADRENA’s software for yacht racing: Optima and Tactique

ADRENA of France is releasing two performance software packages for yacht racing — Optima, a software program that replicates the actual speed polars of a yacht (the only software suite in the world enabling objective data exchanges with North Sails sail lofts), and Tactique, a complete navigation software program for both inshore and offshore yacht racing. ADRENA will take part in the METS trade show in Amsterdam from 14 to 16 November 2006.

[ClickPress, Fri Oct 20 2006] Optima is the benchmark software program for simulating and creating the actual speed polars experienced by yachts. It contains calculation algorithms and powerful data filters and can be used to obtain very accurate performance or routing polars.

The Optima Pro module adds professional-racer-dedicated modules to the software's functions — boat configuration (sails, ballasts, foils, etc.), polar comparisons, polar conversions from one format to another, and so on. Its Sailect module can be used at any time to show if the boat is sailing in the correct sail configuration, and to indicate what the best configuration for the following legs will be. Sailect can also be used to communicate with the sail loft.

Tactique is another ADRENA development in specialist software that has been adopted by leading French crews. It offers innovative and extremely reliable ergonomics, with marker and stopwatch time key-in; besides, the software concatenates the data automatically, bypassing the PC. In the pre-departure phase, the software delivers all the information required for the boat to get off to the best start (line advantage, starting line time, position of the laylines, etc.). During the race, the screen automatically switches and focuses on the buoys, whereas the numerical data is adapted to each phase of the course (times on the laylines, wind changes, currents, etc.). For inshore races, Tactique also has a course instrument panel describing each leg in detail.

The software's Offshore module reads and displays GRIB weather files and includes advanced route selection developed from a racing perspective. Tactique also integrates data histories, alarm management, a Replay module, which can be used to play a route calculated beforehand or replay a race after the event, along with a TactiquePro module. TactiquePro makes it possible, for example, to calculate all the hypotheses for getting to the line and its ends (with tack, with gybe, etc.); to manage the leeward gate; to define and display the layline approach area; to define the minimum and maximum laylines; or even to manage the finish line. With these advanced functions, Tactique Pro is a very complete and user-friendly tool, which stands out from what competitors have to offer.

In effect, the combination of Tactique and Optima offers a software configuration unrivalled for its performance.
