Lifecooler.pt Tells You Which Are the Best New Restaurants in Portugal

There are always new restaurants and new cuisine concepts popping up in Portugal. Lifecooler has selected the top 30 from the most recent restaurants and explains why you shouldn’t miss out on them.

[ClickPress, Mon Nov 20 2006] In a country of good food such as Portugal, restaurants spring up like mushrooms. There are always new proposals and concepts, from the typical and regional cuisine to the new international trends.

But one must distinguish good proposals from the normal ordinary ones. The site for good life in Portugal, www.lifecooler.pt, has selected amongst the most recent restaurants and has come up with the top 30 restaurants that are worth visiting.

The list on the site features restaurants from all over the country. Here’s just a taste of what you can find there.

Up north, highlight goes to Guernica, in Oporto, where the famous painting of Picasso blends Mediterranean and Oriental cuisines. Then there is the very recent MeetPorto, dedicated to biological cuisine, featuring a gourmet shop so that you can take home with you the splendid tastes. Further north, in Lugar de Brufe, in Terras do Bouro, “O Abocanhado” catches the eye due to its modern architecture and spectacular setting. A true masterpiece in a natural paradise of valleys and mountains, “O Abocanhado” features a delicious regional cuisine with plates like Cabrito (kid) and veal.

In the centre of Portugal, in Coimbra, highlight goes to a Fondue restaurant. “Kirsh” was inaugurated early this year, in a century-old building in the centre of the city, and it has already conquered a place in the gastronomy of Coimbra.

In Lisbon the Lifecooler selection includes Pragma, in the new Casino Lisboa, whose cuisine is orientated by the renowned Chef Fausto Airoldi. This restaurant invites you to taste rather sophisticated and rare dishes and wines. Speaking of chefs, the name Luis Baena and his restaurant cannot be forgotten - Quinta de Catralvos.

Down south, in the Algarve, the selection includes fish and seafood specialities at “Faz Gostos”, in Olhão, or Restaurante Vincent, in Almancil, where you can taste the delicious ravioli with fish fillet.

In the Azores, in S. Miguel, highlight goes to one of the best Portuguese restaurants. “A Colmeia”, the gastronomic space of Hotel do Colégio, offers unforgettable original dishes.

In Madeira, Cais do Carvão Café stands out amongst the restaurants. In a Lounge ambiance, you can have a lovely meal overlooking the sea.
