Man Recycles Free Car

A London man has decided to 'recycle' his car by giving it away - all in the name of the environment.

[ClickPress, Wed Nov 22 2006] When you think of recycling you probably think of multi-coloured bins, overflowing drop off points and bearded men wearing sandals. A new website aimed at ‘urban’ recyclers is set to change all that after one member has decided to give away his car for free – all in the name of the environment.

The site, UsefulGarbage.com, lets anyone with an item of value (“dumpers”) list it online for someone else (“finders”) to come along and take off their hands. Although it came as something of a shock to the site’s owners and users, the Saab 900 was offered with full MOT and completely free to anyone who wanted to come and collect it.

“It’s great to see people really getting into the spirit of it,” said site founder Nicholas Tsiougos, “he could easily have sold it and made a few pounds but he decided that ‘recycling’ it was a great way to do his bit. We set up the site to attract people who wanted a simple and alternative way to do their part for the environment and the free car really seems to have captured people’s imaginations.”

Of course, not every item on the site is quite so high profile, as one user explained, “Everyone’s got something that they don’t need anymore. It might not be worth a fortune, but just because I don’t need it anymore doesn’t mean it’s not useful to someone else. And it’s always fun to see what other people are ‘dumping’ as well.“

UsefulGarbage.com is already attracting interest from a number of high profile charitable groups, businesses and local councils keen to get involved in the site. “Environmental issues have been high on the agenda nationwide for the last few months. Everyone from government to Joe Public needs to do what they can. Useful Garbage.com just wants to make it all a bit easier and a lot more fun.” added Nicholas.

The site is available to anyone in the UK and Ireland with aims to expand further a field over the coming months. Anyone with unwanted items they’d like to dump can visit www.usefulgarbage.com.

Of course, if you’d like a free car, as the ‘dumper’ said, “It’s free. Come and get it if you’re interested”.
