Cambridge debate on healthcare technology funding

Decision-makers in healthcare technology and investment will meet in Cambridge this Thursday the 7th of December, to discuss barriers to innovation.

[ClickPress, Tue Dec 05 2006] The debate is part of Europe INNOVA, the European Commission’s innovation initiative. It will be the only UK meeting about financing new healthcare technologies, following other discussions in Antwerp, Copenhagen and Athens.

The outcomes of the discussion will be used by the European Commission in deciding policy for innovation and investment.

Cambridge-based science and technology consultancy YTKO is hosting the debate at the St John’s Innovation Centre.

Peter White, chairman of YTKO and Europe INNOVA Biotechnology Innovation Panellist, said:

“Cost-cutting and budget reductions from national health systems are hindering getting innovative medical devices to market – devices that have the potential to benefit human wellbeing.”

“Investors are reluctant to fund new technology in reducing markets. We are looking at how to make healthcare technology attractive to investors despite these barriers”.

Leaders from governments, healthcare services, universities and companies from around Europe are attending the meeting; a delegate list is available on request.

For more information or to arrange interviews contact YTKO.
