Betting Update; Tottenham v Manchester Utd with the bookmakers making Liverpool their 10/11 favourit
Tottenham Hotspur will look to bounce straight back from their midweek Carling Cup exit when Manchester United roll into town this Sunday.
[ClickPress, Fri Feb 02 2007] Spurs have been struggling for form recently in the league and have recorded just one win in their last six matches, which came at home to Aston Villa (2-1). Most recently Tottenham have lost back-to-back home games in the Premiership, against Liverpool and Newcastle, a feat they have not achieved since November 2004.
Tottenham main problem has been their inability to keep clean sheets in the league this campaign. The Lilywhites have managed just four in 24 matches so far, the lowest total in the division along with Newcastle and West Ham. Spurs last league clean sheet came back on October 28 when Watford were the visitors, 14 games ago, and their cause will not be helped by them facing league's top scorer this weekend.
Manchester United have won 19 of their 25 Premiership games this season, scoring at least twice in 18 of those games. United have been so busy winning their league fixtures this term, that they have drawn fewer games than any other team in the division.
Tottenham can hold out some hope though as United's last two league visits to London have both ended in defeat, coming at West Ham (1-0) and more recently Arsenal (2-1).
Jermaine Defoe has top scored for Tottenham this campaign with seven goals in the Premiership, but just two of these have been first goals and one a last goal. Dmitri Berbatov (three) has been Spurs' most prolific first goalscorer this term, while Aaron Lennon (two) is the only Tottenham player to score a last goal on more than one occasion.
For United, Cristiano Ronaldo has been in sensational form in front of goal hitting 14 in the Premiership so far this season. However, like with Spurs, despite being top scorer other players have been more prolific with first and last goals. Louis Saha has five first goals to Ronaldo's four and Wayne Rooney has four last goals to the Portugal international's three.
Manchester United have enjoyed a lot of success against Tottenham in Premiership history, including never losing at Old Trafford in 15 matches. At White Hart Lane, United have won on their last five visits, dating back to their famous 5-3 fightback, after being 3-0 down at half-time in September 2001.
With such dominance historically in this fixture and with far superior recent form, United should once more prevail this weekend. However, Tottenham have been scoring plenty of goals themselves so backing United to win 2-1 could provide the best value this Sunday.
Recommended Bet (2pt) - Full-time Correct Score: Tottenham 1 Man Utd 2
Recommended Bet (1pt) - Last Goalscorer: Rooney
