Search is on to find 100 African Caribbean Heroes and Heroines

Voting lines are now open in the hunt to find up to 100 unsung African Caribbean heroes and heroines.

[ClickPress, Sat Feb 10 2007] Voting lines open today (Monday 15 January) in the hunt to find up to 100 unsung African Caribbean heroes and heroines.

Members of the British public are being called upon to nominate up to 100 leaders and innovators who will be honoured at the African Caribbean People's Awards (ACPAs), a special ceremony to be held in November.

The event will award popular and lesser-known pioneers who have made a significant contribution to British society over the past 200 years.

Nominees should be a source of inspiration to others; have achieved success against the odds; or made significant progress in a professional sector or field.

Is there an African Caribbean you know who deserves recognition for their achievements? Do you deserve an ACPA for work you have done? Who will get your nomination – a national or local community leader; head-teacher; pastor or bank manager?

The nomination process is conducted via text message. To cast your vote, simply text the word ACPA, the category number of your nominee and their name, followed by your full name to: 86611.

At the ceremony, one nominee from each of the 20 ACPA categories will be presented with an award. The full list of categories and their numbers are printed below:

(1) Politics
(2) Fashion
(3) Entrepreneurship
(4) Retail
(5) Religion
(6) Sport
(7) Financial Services
(8) Healthcare & Medicine
(9) Law
(10) Music
(11) Inventions
(12) Public Services
(13) Education
(14) Performing Arts
(15) Science
(16) Lifetime Achievements
(17) Media
(18) Business
(19) Technology
(20) Community Campaigning

Text voting lines are open to members of the public between now and 31st May. In July, ACPA will publish a list of the nominees with the most votes.

The public will then vote to decide which of these nominees should be honoured with an ACPA in November.

Who should be nominated? You decide. For more information and full terms and conditions, visit www.acpawards.com
