Is Black economic empowerment an endangered species?

Blackvertiser.com underscores the challenge of Black economic empowerment.

[ClickPress, Mon Mar 05 2007] As Black economic empowerment has lent itself to some politicians for rhetorical rides to relevance and acceptance amid a blazing challenge for Blacks to perseveringly maximize opportunities in the global economy, Black owned Blackvertiser.com is offering Blacks real income opportunities.

Findings released by the Census Bureau in August 2006 say Blacks have the least median household income of $30,858, compared to $61,094 for Asian American households, $50,784 for non-Hispanic White households and $35,967 for Hispanic households. Yet, the number of black owned businesses reportedly grew more than four times the national rate from 1997 to 2002, with 25% revenue increase to about $89 billion.

That underscores the need for vigorous Black enterprise development to significantly increase Black business revenue in ways that will help close the income gap between Blacks and other communities in America. But would this be achieved through trumpeting Black economic empowerment before TV cameras and political audiences?

“No! Eloquence minus sustained enterprise development equals endangered Black economic empowerment. Words alone will not do it for us in the Black community. We need to do concrete things to empower Blacks economically,” explains Paschal Eze, the former daily newspaper editor-in-chief who founded Blackvertiser.com, a Black Internet marketplace where people buy and sell text ads on quality Black owned websites.

Billed to take Black economic empowerment from words to web, Blackvertiser.com, which began its beta stage on March 1, helps Black owned websites make money through adverts chosen by their owners at prices set by such Black website owners.

This is unlike other text ad networks where, apart from not being devoted to Blacks, website owners are not allowed to choose whose ads they will run on their websites and the price of such ads. It also differs from other text ad networks by offering advertisers better deals in fixed duration and fixed rate ads which are very budget-friendly.

“Thus, both Black website owners and advertisers benefit immensely from use of Black-owned Blackvertiser.com which pays Black (personal, business or nonprofit) website owners as high as 70% of ad revenues from their websites within only 39 days,” adds Eze, who authored the controversial book Black Jesus and the Capitalist Cross.

To Eze, “it’s all about helping Blacks make money for themselves and their families, it’s all about promoting entrepreneurship and helping to create much-needed jobs, it’s all about improving the lot of our people in an Internet-driven global economy.”
