Mellon Brings the Latest Trends in Branch Security & Automation in the Bulgarian & Romanian Markets

Mellon's branch security and automation solutions help its customers achieve optimum efficiency, convenience, cost-effectiveness and compliance

[ClickPress, Mon Mar 05 2007] Mellon, building on its tradition that has established the companies of the Group as an innovative transaction solutions and services provider for the Romanian and Bulgarian market, has presented in Bucharest and Sofia the latest international trends in branch security and automation. Representatives from the biggest financial and public utilities organizations of Bulgaria and Romania participated to these workshops that took place on the 27th and 28th of February respectively.
Among the key speakers of the workshops were the General Managers of Mellon Romania and Mellon Bulgaria, Stefanos Karapetsis, Executive Director of Mellon Group of Companies and Martin Blomdahl, General Manager of the Swedish Robur. Also, in Romania, Cristinel Sebe, Technical Director at ICECON (Research Institute For Construction Equipment And Technology) and Chairman at ASRO (Romanian Association For Standardization), contributed to the workshop by underlying the advanced Technical Commission 336 processes - safe deposit and safekeeping of money, values and documents – ASRO is applying.
Under the general theme 'The Future of Branches: Customer Friendly & Secure', the presentations focused on two key challenges banks and other organizations face in the two countries. Following Romania’s and Bulgaria’s EU accession, financial institutions and other big organizations with large transaction business, are facing a major challenge with regards to their physical security policies and infrastructure. From the 1st of January, the EU standards are in force and consequently, with respect to physical security issues, insurance companies are adapting their policies accordingly. This means that in case of fire, robbery or other disaster, the insurance companies are liable only for those valuables kept in accredited areas (e.g. certified safes, deposit boxes, teller cash recyclers, fireproof cabinets, vaults etc). The purpose of those workshops was to update Mellon’s customers on the latest developments regarding these standards and to show them are proven solutions that will best address their needs, not only in terms of compliance but also in terms of cost-effectiveness and functionality.
The second issue covered by the workshops dealt with the latest approach of the international financial markets towards banks' 'traditional' channel -the branch. This approach emphasizes the facilitation of both employees and customers in realizing their routine transactions faster, freeing in this way, valuable resources to strengthen the sales activity of the branch and optimise the relations with their customers, contributing at the same time in reducing the operational costs of the branch.

In this context, Mellon also presented innovative solutions such as the Bill Payment terminals that allow consumers to pay their bills (credit card bills, loan instalments, utility bills etc) at the self service terminal, and the Teller Cash Recyclers that assist tellers, providing end-to-end automation and safety for transactions taking place at the teller.
