MEDS Publishing celebrates its 25th anniversary as a leader in nursing education.

[ClickPress, Mon Mar 05 2007] MEDS Publishing is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2007. MEDS is one of the few nurse-owned and operated companies producing academic resources and services for nursing educators and students today.

The company was founded in 1982 by Patricia Hoefler, RN, MSN, who was an educator at Georgetown and George Mason Universities. She started out by teaching at-risk students, and she discovered there was a need for coaching, mentoring, and remediation, all of which were rare with today’s emphasis on standardized testing and memorization.

Innovation was always a big part of the MEDS mission. Patricia Hoefler wrote the first test-taking book for nursing students, and she produced the first computerized Q&A programs with in-depth rationales one year before the NCLEX became computerized. MEDS was also the first company to hold test construction workshops for nursing educators and it still upholds this effort.

In addition, MEDS products have been developed to have a unique methodology that involves learning and applying critical thinking and test-taking skills. These products are also designed to increase student accountability and efficiency.

In 2006, MEDS began offering resources with continuing education (CE) credits for educators, which was an important step forward in further supporting nursing educators. In this year, MEDS was also preparing modifications and additions for the new changes in the NCLEX, effective as of April of 2007.
