Vote rigging, ballot stuffing and election “fixing”
British democracy at all time low. External Scrutiny reccomended due to fears of electoral fraud and vote rigging. UK Democract a "Bannana Republic"
[ClickPress, Thu Mar 08 2007] Vote rigging, ballot stuffing and election “fixing” have always been seen as the remit of corrupt dictatorships and banana republics. Unfortunately many parts of the world now appear to put British Democracy on this level.
UKIP Councillor Stephen Allison said "Its amazing that the UK could be the first western democracy, ever, to have its electoral processes scrutinised by outside observers. It just shows how far we have sunk under this government"
The Scottish, Welsh and English local authority elections this May 3rd could be scrutinised for vote tampering and fraud by a European Human Rights watchdog from the Council of Europe. The Council is recommending that May’s elections be overseen by external monitors because of fears of electoral fraud.
Stephen Allison continued "The problem comes from the Labour Party’s belief that it suffers most from low turnouts. Labour has therefore introduced a series of measures to make voting easier and thereby also more open to fraud".
New Labour logic appears to be the more people that vote then the better the Labour Party will do. That is why one measure after another has been pushed through by Labour Ministers, without cross-party support and, in many cases, against the strong views of the Electoral Commission.
The body behind the probe, the Council of Europe, was founded in 1949 and consists of 48 nations. The conditions for membership are pluralistic democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights.
Councillor Allison concluded "British democracy was once the envy of the world but it is now apparently being destroyed by Nu Labour’s determination to cling onto power at all costs."
