[ClickPress, Tue Mar 20 2007] Matador authors have scooped two of the prizes in the 2006 Self Publishing Awards, sponsored by the David St John Thomas Charitable Trust.
Carolyn McCrae was awarded the fiction prize for her novel The Last Dance, which was published last June. The first in a trilogy, the book tells of a family, damaged by the Second World War and struggling to keep up the facade of respectability. The second book, Walking Alone is due to be published this April.
Carolyn receives a £250 award and joins nominees in other categories to contend for the Self Published Book of the Year, which will be announced at a special ceremony in May. The overall winner receives a further £750 and is awarded the prestigious Self Publishing Silver Cup.
Carolyn said: “I can only say how much I appreciate that The Last Dance has been acknowledged as an exceptional book. It was enjoyable to write, as I understand it is to read, and I am thrilled that it has been recognized by the David St John Thomas Charitable Trust.”
Meanwhile, Ian Walker, author of Thirty Miles – A Local Journey in Food, scooped the Self Published Marketing Award, after impressing judges with his detailed marketing, promotion and sales plan. Since his book was published in June, Ian has run a very successful and intensive publicity campaign at farmers’ markets across the country and in the local and national media, including an appearance on several prominent ‘green’ internet sites and BBC Breakfast. His book is also being stocked centrally in a number of prominent Waterstone’s stores.
Ian said: “I've massively enjoyed the challenge of self publishing, which has been a totally rewarding experience, and I’m absolutely thrilled with the award.”
He also receives £250 and a silver cup.
