Nirj Deva MEP attends Grand Salute to Vijaya Corea in Colombo

Nirj Deva, the European Parliamentarian attended the Grand Salute to Vijaya Corea celebrations in Sri Lanka

[ClickPress, Mon Aug 08 2005] The distinguished European Union parliamentarian, Nirj Deva MEP attended the 'Grand Salute to Vijaya Corea' who marked 40 years as a showbiz personality in the island of Sri Lanka. The musical extravaganza was organised by DR Entertainments in Colombo.

Nirj Deva is He is a Member of the Development Committee and a substitute member on Regional Policy, Tourism and Transport of the European Union.

Sri Lanka-born Nirj Deva attended the masive celebrations at the BMICH Conference Hall in Colombo as an honoured guest. He met some of Sri Lanka's foremost entertainers, among them two London based artistes - Sri Lankan superstars Nimal Mendis and Desmond de Silva, Sunil Perera and the Gypsies, Mignonne Fernando of The Jetliners fame, Dalreene, Alston Koch who had flown in from Australia, The Dharamartne Brothers. Also participating in the music show in Colombo were Channa Wijeywardene's dance troupe and El Latino.

Sri Lankan superstar Desmond de Silva presented Vijaya Corea (a former Director-General of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation) a Lifetime Achievement Award on behalf of the Autism Awareness Campaign. Vijaya Corea has been a staunch supporter of the Autism Awareness Campaign in Sri Lanka. Nirj Deva MEP has also backed the cause.

Hundreds attended the show held at the BMICH in Colombo. Nirj Deva met with the Sri Lankan artistes after the show.
