[ClickPress, Tue Mar 27 2007] Sir Alan Sugar has been saying he won’t be going green because he thinks it is too late to save the planet. A survey on climate change by Continental/KNOTs Research reveals that many around the world share his view. Half (56%) of UK, 76% of Japanese, 50% of German and 44% of American citizens believe that the planet is dying.

A total of 1081 internet users were polled online in the UK, Japan, Germany and the US, and were asked: “Some people have said that global warming has progressed too far and that our planet is dying. Just based on your own feelings do you agree or disagree?”

CHARTS AND RESULTS AVAILABLE

Of those who believed the planet is dying, nearly a quarter thought that the planet will die and no longer be able to support human life within the next 100 years - therefore this could possibly happen in their lifetime.

Colin Shaddick, director, Continental Research, said: “Many around the world share Sir Alan’s views that our planet is dying, especially the Japanese. Sir Alan also commented that Americans are the biggest polluters of the atmosphere yet don’t seem to care about it. Certainly from our survey there is some agreement with this. Of the four countries surveyed US citizens were the least concerned about climate change issues.”

Also in the report:

• Level of concern about climate change
• Rating of Government efforts
• Country responsibility
• Country doing the least
• Changes noticed in the weather
• Helping the environment
• Green tax on airline fuel
• Alternative energy sources favoured
• Attitudes to Global warming
