[ClickPress, Fri Apr 13 2007] Harvard, Yale, Princeton and the University of Cincinnati are among the select schools with students participating in the Presidential Fellows Program at the Center for the Study of the Presidency in Washington, DC. Throughout the yearlong program, fellows have the unique opportunity to study public policymaking and the President's relations with Congress, allies, media and the American public.
UC College of Business student, Dominic Berardi, is currently participating as the second Cincom Scholar Fellow thanks to the generous contributions of Thomas Nies, Cincom President and CoB alumnus.
"It is an honor to have our students participating in such an excellent program," said Dean Will McIntosh. "It speaks to the superior quality of our academic programs and the excellent talent of our students. Dominic is an outstanding ambassador of the College of Business and the Carl H. Lindner Honors-PLUS program."
In addition to participating as a presidential fellow, Berardi has an impressive academic and extracurricular résumé. Throughout the summer, he served as chairman and executive director of ThinkOHIO, lobbying the Ohio Legislature for higher education reform on behalf of more than 260,000 students. Berardi also served as UC Student Body Vice President and completed a co-op with ACNeilsen BASES.
The Center for the Study of the Presidency, founded in 1965, is a non-profit, non-partisan organization serving as a central resource on issues affecting the modern presidency. The center studies all aspects of the American presidency to strengthen the executive-legislative branch relationship and to encourage public service, especially among young Americans. The goal of the center is to develop a new generation of national leaders committed to public service.
Fellows come to Washington, D.C. for personal briefings by national media representatives, for networking opportunities with decision-makers and for a chance to learn firsthand about the policymaking process. Fellowship requires that each student research, write and present an original paper on an issue of the modern presidency, which will be published by the center. The center provides mentors drawn from the public-policy community and government to help the Fellows define their proposals and also support the writing and editing of an article that is brought to publishing standards during the academic year.
Each year two Center Fellows are recognized for the exceptional scholarship of their papers on the modern presidency. Substantial awards and plaques honoring their achievements are presented. Since its inception, the Center Fellows Program has developed leadership and scholarship skills in more than 1,000 students. Many have gone on to distinguish themselves in government, education, military, business and other fields of endeavor.
