npower launches pioneering Warm Home Grant

Npower, one of the UK's leading energy suppliers, has announced the launch of its Warm Home Grant, which offers eligible customers a £350 grant to go towards the cost of replacing old boilers. The launch follows the news that Warm Front funding will be on hold until April 2011.

Along the same lines as Warm Front's £300 grant, the npower Warm Home Grant will be available for residents aged 60 or over, who own or privately rent their home.* The grant can be used against the installation of a new A-rated energy efficient boiler.

npower is the first energy supplier to offer the grant, which will be available until the end of March, when Warm Front applications re-open.

Joan Coe, marketing manager for npower hometeam commented: "The Government's Warm Front scheme plays a vital role in making homes warmer, healthier and more energy efficient. Whilst Warm Front funding is on hold until April 2011, we felt it was vital to play our part in supporting the nation by offering our own £350 grant for residents replacing a boiler that is more than ten years old.

"New A rated boilers are over 90% efficient but older boilers might be less than 60% efficient, which not only means that for every £1 spent on gas heating 40p is wasted, but that these boilers are more susceptible to breaking down. This can pose a health and safety risk to homeowners as well as having financial implications, so we’re pleased to be able to make this commitment to provide the Warm Home grant until March 2011."

The npower Warm Home Grant will be available across England. The grant will not only offer savings on boiler installation, but will also help residents save money on gas bills.

The announcement comes just two months after npower extended its pioneering central heating and boiler care product, hometeam 50, to any British resident**, even if they are not currently an npower customer.

hometeam 50 central heating care offers 12 months of service with one important difference: if customers don’t call out an npower engineer before their year's anniversary, npower will automatically return 50% of the annual cost.***

Notes to editors:
*Warm Front’s £300 rebate grant is available for residents aged 60 or over, who own or privately rent their home and do not qualify for the Warm Front Scheme.
**Hometeam 50 is available to any British mainland resident.
***In order to take advantage of the 50% No Call Out Cash Back, homeowners just need to sign up to and be receiving npower's gas and electricity supply before the end of their 12 month agreement.
