Routes Limited Wins Queen's Award for Enterprise

Manchester-based Routes Limited wins Queen's Award for Enterprise in International Trade Category. [ClickPress, Sat Apr 21 2007] Routes has won the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade 2007. The award, for outstanding business performance and commercial success, recognises Routes’ sustained contribution to aviation route development through its innovative Regional and World Route Development Forums.

Since 1995, Routes’ annual forums have directly shaped the world’s future air networks by providing a platform for airlines, airports and suppliers to meet, plan, and formalise aviation route agreements. The company’s main market is in South East Asia, followed by Europe, the Middle East and the Americas.

“We are honoured and delighted to receive the Queen’s Award for Enterprise. It is a testament to the company’s pioneering concept and approach in facilitating strategic air route development and acting as a catalyst for regional economic growth” says Mike Howarth, Chairman of Routes. “The efforts of our dedicated team, continual research to inform improvements to the events and delegate support from across the aviation industry sectors are fundamental to our success.”

The year-on-year growth of the forums reflects the ever increasing importance of the route development industry. From its inception in 1995, the annual World Route Development Forum has achieved over a 20 fold increase in delegate attendance and the outlook for the industry and Routes is one of continued expansion. This year’s event, hosted by Stockholm-Arlanda Airport and the City of Stockholm, is forecasted to attract 2350 delegates from 650 airports, 350 airlines, tourism authorities, European Union Airport Coordinators and economic development agencies spanning more than 120 countries.

The 2008 and 2009 events will be held in Kuala Lumpur and Beijing respectively and bidding is already underway to host the 2010 event.

The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are presented every year to UK businesses that have demonstrated outstanding achievement in one of three categories: international trade, innovation and sustainable development. The awards are made by the Queen on the recommendation of the Prime Minister, who is assisted by a specialist Advisory Committee comprised of representatives from Government, trade and industry and trade unions. Routes is entitled to the award until 2012.
