Caravan TV show says "We are the greenest"

A Caravanning TV show in the UK says that caravan holidays at at least 4 times greener than flying vacations.

[ClickPress, Mon May 07 2007] The next edition of The Caravan Channel TV programme, broadcast 4 times weekly on Sky channel 181, due to premiere on 9th May, will claim that caravanning holidays are at least 4 times greener than flying holidays.

"Just counting the travel element alone, a return flight to somewhere like Alicante for a family of 4 produces a CO2 emission of around 3,300lbs, compared to under 900lbs of CO2 produced by that same family travelling 1200 miles in a 2-litre diesel family car, towing a medium sized caravan," said producer Chris Gosling.

"Of course, many people talk about reducing their carbon footprint, and maybe take steps towards it in a personal way, but caravanners, motorhome users and campers are really doing something large-scale and serious about it, despite what press and media often say about the larger cars and SUVs used to tow caravans," he said.

"Add to this the fact that caravanners, motorhome users and campers don't require massive hotels, requiring a massive carbon investment for construction, and even more for their daily operation, and you have a seriously green, environmentally friendly holiday industry. Finally, of course, when the holiday season is over, caravan and camp sites return to green fields, with beautiful trees and abundant wildlife, and the argument is over! Despite the Clarksons of this world, caravanners, motorhome users and campers are the green guys. . . "
