Eurovision Fans – not so Euro-sceptical

Results of a survey of over 1000 Eurovision fans at songcontestvoting.com suggest that when it comes to casting their vote fans are more concerned about performance, lyrics and hit potential than tactical plots to help or hinder friends and foes.

[ClickPress, Tue May 08 2007] If Sir Terry Wogan is to be believed the results of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Helsinki are a foregone conclusion as ‘neighbourly’ voting will ensure victory for one of the Baltic States.

However a survey of over 1000 Eurovision fans at songcontestvoting.com suggests that, when it comes to casting our vote, we are more concerned about performance, lyrics and hit potential than tactical plots to help or hinder friends and foes.

Furthermore most fans either don’t think ‘neighbourly’ voting exists or that it’s just a bit of fun. Only 28% of UK respondents (and 24% overall) thought suspect voting patterns were reducing the contest to a farce.

However the UK was mentioned by 15 nationalities as being the country they’re least likely to vote for and the traditional allegiance between Greece and Cyprus seems as strong as ever.
