Redwood Adventures to Host National Trails Day, June 2, 2007

Event in Northern California to commemorate America’s trails through guided tours, exhibitions, food and music

[ClickPress, Wed May 09 2007] Redwood Adventures, a business unit of Redwood Parks Lodge Company, today announced it will host a festival in honor of the American Hiking Society's fifteenth annual National Trails Day on June 2, 2007.

In celebration of America's beautiful trails, all visitors of Northern California's Redwood National and State Parks and surrounding communities are invited to participate in bike rides, horseback rides, kayak trips and interpretive hikes guided by Rob W. Hewitt, executive director of Godwit Days and Pablo A. Herrera, wildlife biologist with the U.S. Forest Service and Redwood Sciences Laboratory.

Sponsored by the Orick Chamber of Commerce and hosted at Redwood Adventures Events Center, the National Trails Day celebration is designed to inspire the public to visit the trails in and around the Redwood National and State Parks to discover, learn about and celebrate the area while participating in guided tours, gear demonstrations, educational exhibits, art, food and music.

Exhibitions and demonstrations will be presented by the American Red Cross, Boy/Cub Scouts of America, Humboldt State University Forestry Conclave, Orick Arts, Pro Sports Center, Redwood Art by Alvin, Redwood Trails Horseback, Tim Duncan Woodcarvings, the Yurok Tribe and Kayak Zak's.

"The Redwood National and State Park is home to more than 200 miles of trails," said John 'Johnny Redwood' Russavage, chairman and chief executive officer of Redwood Adventures. "Whether people come to enjoy a relaxing hike through old growth redwood trees, a bike ride to Prairie Creek Campgrounds, a horseback ride among the ferns into Redwood National Park or to paddle a kayak in Stone Lagoon, we encourage everyone to join us in enjoying and honoring the preservation of this beautiful area."

The American Hiking Society's National Trails Day aims to join more than one million hikers, bikers, equestrians and others in celebration of America's trails. While the American Hiking Society helps to promote events nationally, the majority of events are planned and carried out at the local level by conservation and recreation organizations, trail clubs and land management agencies.

"The trees, trails and other resources we have today in America are a direct result of preservation efforts by state and national government agencies, non-profit groups and thousands of individuals from organizations like Redwood Adventures and the American Hiking Society," said Steve W. Chaney, Superintendent for Redwoods National Parks. "We encourage guests and local community members to come together and celebrate National Trails Day and the natural resources the parks have to offer."
