Cargo Women Race for Life

The female staff at Cargo Restaurant and Bar in Edinburgh will Race for Life on June 3, 2007 in Holyrood Park, Edinburgh. Cargo are supporting the girls with a free buffet for race participants on the day, as well as donating £1 to CancerResearch UK from cocktails ordered from a special 'girly' cocktail menu from now until June 3.

[ClickPress, Thu May 10 2007] The female staff at Cargo Restaurant and Bar in Edinburgh have traded in their aprons for running shoes in order to raise money for the UK’s biggest women only fundraising event – CancerResearch UK’s Race for Life Campaign.

Ten women from Cargo will be running in the Race for Life in Holyrood Park on 3 June 2007. To celebrate, from now until the race in June, Cargo will be offering a special ‘girly’ cocktail menu, with £1 from each cocktail purchased going directly to CancerResearch UK. The specially devised menu features seven popular cocktails such as a French Martini and Cosmopolitan, along with two non-alcoholic cocktails for health conscious supporters.

To help further raise awareness for the charity, the 10 race participants have replaced their customary black shirts with specially made T-shirts announcing ‘Cargo Girls Supporting Race for Life’.

In a show of support from fellow staff members, all tips earned by Cargo staff on the race day will also be donated to the charity.

On the race day itself, Cargo will join in the festivities by offering any Race for Life participants a free drink and buffet from 12:30pm. Families and friends of participants are welcome to unwind at the BBQ in Cargo’s quayside courtyard.

A special raffle will be held after the race at 3pm. Prizes include one night’s bed and breakfast at the Hudson Hotel in Edinburgh’s fashionable West End, dinner for four at Cargo, a month’s free membership at Virgin Active, £20 in drinks vouchers, and a case of wine. All proceeds will go to CancerResearchUK.

Race for Life
The 2007 Race for Life event is being held in Edinburgh at Holyrood Park on 3 June 2007 from 11am. The 5km course takes participants around the park and surrounding areas.
Since it started in 1994, Race for Life has grown to become the UK’s biggest women-only fundraising event. All the money raised by our participants helps fund the crucial work of Cancer Research UK – the world’s leading independent organisation dedicated to cancer research. So far, over two million women of all ages have run, walked or jogged to raise over £140 million in sponsorship for the charity.
This year, Cancer Research UK hopes to raise £60 million.
