Banking, Finance & Investment: LONDON IS TOP CHOICE FOR FINANCIERS

LONDON IS TOP CHOICE FOR FINANCIERS

In the latest research from eFinancialCareers.com – the UK-based global financial recruitment website – 85% of respondents who work in London would prefer not to relocate, compared to 47.5% in 2006.

[ClickPress, Thu May 10 2007] In the latest research from eFinancialCareers.com – the UK-based global financial recruitment website – 85% of respondents who work in London would prefer not to relocate, compared to 47.5% in 2006.

As testimony to the bonus culture, the survey revealed the extent to which London City workers are motivated by money. Whilst 85% might proclaim a desire to stay in London, 58% of them would move instantly if they were offered a 25% pay increase.

Sarah Butcher, editor of eFinancialCareers.com, commented,

”Once again, London again has cemented its position as the place of choice for financial services professionals. But employers in the City shouldn’t be complacent – if higher pay is offered elsewhere the workforce will be quick to leave.”

Historically, work/life issues have been the primary reasons for City workers to relocate. They now come in second place behind better pay. Of those polled, 51% chose work/life balance as their reason for relocating, down from 55% in 2006. Cost of living also fell to 9% from 12% in 2006 but family issues rose significantly to 26% from 14.2% in 2006.

Sarah Butcher added:

“If the good times start to wane, our findings suggest work/life balance will rapidly rise up the agenda. The cost of living has become less of a concern as wages are sky-rocketing, producing a more stable London-based work force.”

The nearby financial centres in most demand with Londoners are:

Edinburgh – the most popular with 11.3% of the vote [2006 – this figure stood at 21.6%]
Dublin – 4.8% chose Dublin. [2006 – this figure is stood at 9%]

The 25-30 age groups are the most willing relocaters, with 35% of the vote whilst 18-24s are the least willing, with 4.3%.
