Brandon “The Kid” Lewis posts crowd-pleasing top speed at charity drag race

The SPEED FOR NEED celebrity drag race at Tulsa Raceway Park was a success in its inagural year and local driver Brandon "The Kid" Lewis brought the crowd to its feet.

[ClickPress, Tue May 15 2007] Every 21-year-old wants the chance to show of his new car in front of his friends. In that sense, what third-year NHRA drag racer Brandon “The Kid” Lewis did on Saturday was completely normal.

What made it unique for Lewis was that he showed his new a-fuel dragster off to several thousand of his friends at over 250 mph while participating in the SPEED FOR NEED Celebrity Drag Race, in front of a home-town crowd at Tulsa Raceway Park.

“I have been looking forward to this event for weeks. We invited a lot of people out who had never had the chance to see me race, much less see me in the dragster,” Lewis said.

“The support here at Tulsa Raceway Park – not just for me, but for all of the drivers and The #14 Foundation – has been tremendous. It makes us all feel good about the drag racing community to see this support for such a great cause.”

The SPEED FOR NEED event benefited Josh Heupel’s The #14 Foundation, which provides scholarships to underprivileged children so they can attend camps where they learn valuable life skills.

Lewis made two passes in the a-fuel dragster. His second pass posted a 5.59 seconds elapsed time at 255 mph, the quickest and fastest numbers of the night. Both passes brought the crowd to its feet.
