The International wine & Spirit Competition declare Winning Wines in London

The International Wine and Spirit Competition announce first results on their winning wines of 2007

[ClickPress, Mon May 21 2007] From around the world the International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC) has received entries of the best of wines from countries as diverse as Moldova to Japan. The tasting teams of judges then gathered to assess and pronounce the results today on the first of these 2007 wine categories.

Said Lesley Gray, IWSC Marketing & Public Relations Manager;
“Entries in this first category of wines for 2007 have included some new lines such as ice-wines from Sweden and Russia, submissions from the Far East, alongside of old favourites such as robust, aromatic reds from the Lebanon, Portugal and Central Europe and some delicate, fragrant wines from Switzerland and Luxembourg.

“Three of the five Gold Medals within this group of winners being announced today, are classic sweet wines from Hungary together with a Late Harvest wine from Japan. The one red wine to win Gold here is from a boutique winery in Lebanon; Chateau Belle-Vue for their 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot.

Gray added; “We’re delighted to be helping some of these lesser known companies and countries to reach the breadth of the UK trade and press through their successes with us at the IWSC. A programme of Showcase tastings will take these wines and many other categories to audiences around the world, such as the tastings we’ve conducted already this year in America, New Zealand, South Africa, France, Germany and Italy. ”

At our stand T54 on this first day (Tuesday 22nd May) of the London International Wine & Spirit Trade Fair, we are hosting a special, tutored tasting at 4pm of a selection of these winning wines.”

Frances Horder, Competition Director of the IWSC, commented;
“The IWSC boasts a highly qualified, trained group of international judges, selected for their knowledge and experience but also bearing consumer expectations in mind; qualified, knowledgeable consumer judges work alongside of this team. Whether the triumphant wines are famous brands or new discoveries, we are confident that the conclusions reached by our panels are borne of both expertise and impartiality.

A Technical and Judging Committee provides an independent overview of procedures and judges for 2007 include; Julian Brind MW, Nick Room, David Wrigley MW, Maggie McNie MW, David Molyneux-Berry MW, Philip Goodband MW, Angela Mount, Peter Nixson, David Stewart, Richard Paterson..”

Full details on today’s winners are to be found in the IWSC results booklet, available at stand T54 or on www.iwsc.net . Further results on other categories of wine will be announced over the next two months. The IWSC is still open to wines from the Southern Hemisphere and such entries can be made on site at T54 at the Fair.
