BT launches BT Vision for BT Broadband customers

BT Broadband customers can now get digital TV box

[ClickPress, Thu May 24 2007] Broadband comparison site Broadband Genie comments on BT’s multi million campaign to promote its new digital TV service, BT Vision.

The multi-million pound campaign kicked off on Saturday evening with national TV advertising supported by a wide range of print, broadcast and online ads.

BT Vision is enabled by the innovative V-box, an HD-ready television set-top box which connects to BT Broadband where a customer has a minimum guaranteed line speed of 2mb per second, and offers thousands of hours of on-demand content and the Freeview channels, but also a personal video recorder (PVR) which can record up to 80 hours of programming.

The V-box is free to BT Total Broadband customers but is subject to an installation fee of £60 and connection fee of £30. Customers can pay-per-view for on-demand programmes or a subscription for blocks of programmes.

Broadband Genie CEO Philip Wilkinson says: “BT Vision is designed for customers who want more choice than Freeview but who don’t want to pay a compulsory subscription which is a welcome addition to the digital TV market.

“Viewers need to have BT Broadband to use a BT Vision box so it will be interesting to see if the option of getting a digital TV service from BT results in more broadband users picking the telecoms giant. The V-box is free to new BT Total Broadband customers. Existing customers need to re-contract as per the original contractual period to get the box for free. Customers not wishing to re-contract will be charged £199 for the box – so BT is obviously keen to use BT Vision to boost the number of customers tied in to a broadband contract.”
