Emerald Group Publishing launches Indian Growth and Development Review

Emerald Group Publishing Limited is launching a journal covering the field of Economic Development and Growth with a special emphasis on India.

[ClickPress, Fri May 25 2007] Rebecca Marsh, Editorial Director from Emerald comments, “While there are several economic journals coming out of developing countries, virtually none have a solid standing at the international level. The goal of this journal is to work on the frontier of growth and development research on developing countries such as India and China.”

“Indian Growth and Development Review simultaneously integrates frontier level research, provides a policy debate and advances and discusses pedagogical issues in economics education. To the best of our knowledge, this will be the first journal that contains such a format within the economic profession.”

The journal will have three parts: Part A; a purely research–based academic section – which will constitute the main body, Part B; a policy debate section and Part C; a section on novel teaching materials at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels in economics and business.

The key research areas will include

· Growth and development strategies
· Human capital
· Agriculture
· Outsourcing
· Foreign direct investment

Editor Professor Satya Das has published over 40 articles in peer reviewed journals. His primary research interest has been international economics but he has lately moved into other areas such as macroeconomics (endogenous growth), developmental issues (such as child labour and tax reforms) and economics of terrorism.

Editor Professor Chetan Ghate is currently Assistant Professor within the Planning Unit at the Indian Statistical Unit in New Delhi, working in the area of endogenous growth theory which is a core area of macroeconomic research. Professor Ghate adds, “This journal, coming out of a developing country, will provide a much needed international outlet for research in growth and development economics. As the editors, we are committed to making this the best growth and development journal coming out of the fast emerging/developing economies around the world”.

The journal will be launched in 2008 in print and electronic format with two issues and 10-15 approx papers per year. The journal will have a non-article content covering interviews with famous economists, conferences, workshops and announcements.
