The city of Bordeaux has a number of fine museums with extensive collections that will be open free of charge on 14th May.

Debates and exhibitions will also be taking place, again open to all members of the public and free of charge and museums will be open until 1.00am in the morning.

The Nuit des Muses was an initiative launched in 2005 by the French Department of Culture and over 1000 museums throughout the country and the rest of Europe now open their doors and organise events as a part of the programme of ongoing cultural awareness.

The particular museums involved are announced as the Night of Museums approaches each year but most Europeans will find themselves near to one of them.

As well as the museum exhibitions and special events there are also light shows, displays of contemporary art and theatrical and musical performances of all kinds taking place.

One of the most popular activities organised by museums during the event is a nocturnal tour of some of the galleries.

An International Museums Day runs concurrently with the European Night of Museums to promote awareness of what is on offer in the museum world and will discuss issues affecting them with cultural tourism being high on the agenda this year.

When visitors stay at hotels in Bordeaux Airport they can participate in this exciting European cultural event and experience some of the famous museums in Bordeaux free of charge.
