Apaws For Bedfordshire Couple

From humble beginnings, this determined couple have battled serious illness to launch their award winning Pet Sitting business

[ClickPress, Fri Jun 01 2007] From humble beginnings, this determined couple have battled serious illness to launch their award winning Pet Sitting business.

In 1997 Douglas Cole was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and 5 months later Nina suffered a brain haemorrhage. During her recovery, she decided to realise her dream of working with animals. She started on a small scale walking dogs for their owners whilst they were at work, and popping in to feed the cat and water the plants, whilst her clients were on holiday. It wasn't long before this service was in big demand, and unable to cope with the ever increasing workload, Nina's husband left Hertfordshire University where he was studying for a microbiology degree, and Nina's Nannies for Pets was formed.

Nina, a dedicated champion of animal welfare, who spent a year studying the wolves at Whipsnade Wild Animal Park, now has a steady and increasing workforce and is able to offer her service throughout the South and South East of England. However, she is now appealing for more mature people to join her roll call of Sitters. "Being a Pet Nanny is a very responsible job and it is always difficult to find the right calibre of people". "Our Pet Nannies are mostly retired people/couples, and must undergo vigorous security checks, but once on board they remain valuable members of our team. “Interest has been so great, we are even taking calls from the United States, especially the Californian’s who seem extremely keen to secure a British Pet Nanny for their pampered pooches” We are now sending our Pet Nannies to France and Italy and are now bonded with Petsitters International (PSI).

Nina and Doug are particularly keen to keep the ‘family feel‘, to their business, making no extra charges for watering indoor and patio plants. Her Pet Nannies will even do a light shop for their clients return at no extra charge.

Nina stated that working seven days a week can be extremely stressful, and it has been 9 years since they both managed a holiday, but she still finds the time to continue her media work, highlighting the plight of animal welfare, and her recent appearance on Anglia TV and BBC radio drew a huge response.

"Our last Christmas party had some hilarious moments". "It is extremely rare to see our whole team get together because of their sitting commitments, but one of my team mentioned how uncomfortable it was to have to share your bed with a St. Bernard"! "It is essential however, that we adhere to our clients requirements", said Nina, "and we have learned to take these little oddities in our stride"!

If anyone is interested in becoming a live-in Pet Nanny, Nina can be contacted at 08450 53 11 52, or visit their website www.ninasnanniesforpets.co.uk. She would love to hear from you.
