Karting Teams Endure Race to Success

Teams from some of the industry’s leading dealers and distributors enjoyed a night of high-speed excitement recently at a telecoms industry Karting Challenge organised by north west based Corporate Telecommunications.

[ClickPress, Mon Jun 11 2007] The teams were taking part in an Endurance Challenge on May 17th at the Daytona race track in Manchester. The event was sponsored by Plantronics, the world leader in communications headsets.

There were ten teams taking part in total. As well as two from Corporate Telecommunications, a specialist distributor of headsets, handsets, audio conferencing, call recording and voice and data installation equipment, two teams from Trust Distribution, two from Digital Exchange Products (DXP) and one each from PMC Telecom, Redstone, Lloyds Communications and Plantronics, competed in a 90-minute endurance race around the 450-metre circuit.

Each team clocked up a whopping 150-plus laps over the course of the hour-and-a-half race, with Trust Distribution, led by director Terry Ambrose, eventually taking the chequered flag. Each member of the victorious team received a trophy, an iPod and a bottle of champagne.

“It was a fantastic night; very well organised. The race was really tough. Everyone was exhausted by the end, but we managed to hang on,” said Trust Distribution’s Terry Ambrose.

One of the team’s from Corporate Telecommunications, which is the third largest and fastest growing Plantronics distributor in the UK, came in second, with the team from PMC taking the final place on the podium, in third. No-one went home empty-handed, though. In true Grand Prix style, all the competitors received a bottle of champagne and a cold buffet was laid on to keep up the drivers’ strength during the race.

Peter Faulkner, office manager at Corporate Telecommunications, who organised the event, said that “we regularly organise events like this. It’s a great way to build relationships with our dealer base and enhance customer relations in general. We’re already talking about organising another one for later this year. And if Terry Ambrose ever gets bored in telecoms, I’m sure there are a few Formula One teams that would snap him up.”

There was also a special mention for the all-girl Charlie’s Angels team from Redstone, who came in last, weary but unbowed. “We may have finished last, but at least we were the highest placed girls’ team,” joked team leader Donna Richardson.
