Non-Profit Youth Mountain Biking Organization, Trip for Kids, Inspires New Amateur Cycling Team to R

Cycling Team TFK raises money and awareness for Trips for Kids

[ClickPress, Thu Jun 21 2007] Trips for Kids (TFK) announces the creation of new cycling team - Team TFK. After months of training, the team is hitting the Northern California road circuit with promising results.

At a time when cycling teams collect sponsors to offer their members free products, Team TFK solicits riders to race for their cause - empowering disadvantaged youth. Team TFK is neither sponsored by nor affiliated with Trips for Kids, rather, the cycling team formed independently with the goal of raising money and awareness for the Trips for Kids organization.

"This is unprecedented in cycling," said Marilyn Price, director of Trips for Kids. "I have never seen a competitive team formed with the sole purpose of racing for a cause. We hope Team TFK inspires others to train and compete for the greater good, maybe for the Trips for Kids chapter in their own town."

After months of training, this San Francisco-based United States Cycling Federation (USCF) amateur cycling team is racing with a goal to raise money and awareness for Trips for Kids, a national non-profit that enables underserved youth to experience the outdoors on a mountain bike. Trips for Kids' bike rides challenge youth to reach their full potential and to take care of the earth.

"I figured it was a waste to love the sport of cycling as much as I do and not contribute to a goal greater than showing up at races and competing," said Teddy Allen, Team TFK captain and organizer. "Amateur racing was becoming too much of 'what do I get' rather than 'what can I contribute'. I strongly believe all of us have something to contribute. I decided to focus my love of cycling and racing into a form that could benefit Trips for Kids."

Allen successfully drafted a team of seventeen riders that share a common goal of supporting Trips for Kids. GU Sports matches every penny earned through the racing season by Team TFK and donates the winnings to Trips for Kids. Team TFK also receives donations from other cyclists at each race.

"We are thrilled with the formation of Team TFK," said Price. "Besides being goodwill ambassadors for our programs, their training, enthusiasm, and energy will further inspire our kids. I can't tell you how much I admire the team's year-round commitment and training for our cause. Win or lose, to us, Team TFK is already ahead of their competition."

"Riding for the kids adds extra motivation for the whole team during the final kilometers of a race," said Allen. "That's when you start thinking that if you just hang in there and finish in the top five, you can earn money for Trips for Kids."

In addition to GU Sports, Team TFK sponsors include Spiuk, CaliActive, and Energy 927fm. Follow the team's progress through the season on their website www.teamtfk.org.
